| Function | Gap junction protein that acts as a regulator of bladder capacity. A gap junction consists of a cluster of closely packed pairs of transmembrane channels, the connexons, through which materials of low MW diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell. Negative regulator of bladder functional capacity: acts by enhancing intercellular electrical and chemical transmission, thus sensitizing bladder muscles to cholinergic neural stimuli and causing them to contract (By similarity). {ECO:0000250}. |

![Western Blot: Connexin 43/GJA1 [p Ser368] Antibody [NB100-722] - rat hippocampal lysate showing specific immunolabeling of the ~43k connexin43 phosphorylated at Ser368 (Control). The phosphospecificity of this labeling is shown in the second lane (lambda-phosphatase). The blot is identical to the control except that it was incubated (1200 units for 30 min) before being exposed to the phospho-Ser368 connexin43 antibody.
